Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between rural tourism and the circular economy, focusing on how sustainability principles can be applied in rural areas of Romania. The study aims to highlight the potential of rural tourism as a driver of sustainable development by promoting local resource use, waste reduction, and community engagement in circular economic practices. The work includes a theoretical analysis of the concepts of rural tourism and the circular economy, followed by a case study in the Apuseni Mountains region. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for policymakers, local entrepreneurs, and rural stakeholders, contributing to the development of a responsible and regenerative tourism model in Romania’s rural areas.
