FROM TRANSHUMANCE TO PASTORAL TOURISM
Abstract
The practice of transhumance has a millennial tradition all over the world. In Europe, some countries (among which Italy and Spain) have already established a connection between transhumance and tourism, setting the bases for a new niche tourism – pastoral tourism. Two good practice examples illustrate how tour-operators can integrate transhumance activities and traditions in cultural, educational, or sustainable tourism packages for low prices. The paper is an attempt at suggesting Romanian tour-operators that they too could benefit from the traditions of transhumance and revive agritourism.
