Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between Béla Bartók's compositions and the rural folk music of Eastern Europe, focusing on how his ethnomusicological research influenced his classical works. By analyzing pieces such as Six Romanian Folk Dances and Mikrokosmos, the study highlights Bartók’s integration of folk melodies, irregular rhythms, and modal scales into classical forms. It emphasizes his ability to transform simple folk motifs into complex musical structures while preserving their authentic essence. Additionally, the research underscores Bartók's commitment to documenting and preserving folk traditions through extensive fieldwork, affirming the importance of folk music in enriching classical music and inspiring future composers.
