CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORLD TOURISM
Abstract
The paper aimed to analyze the dynamics of world tourism in the period 1990-2011, based on the specific indicators, UNWTO data base and the index ,share and comparison methods. International tourist arrivals reached 1 Billion in 2012, compared to 25 million in 1950, 166 million in 1970 and 435 million in 1990. World tourism receipts accounted for USD 1,030.3 Billion in 2011 being by 11.11 % higher than in 2010. In 2011, tourism expenditures totalized USD 1,030, Billion being by 11.11 % higher than in 2010. The top tourism destination based on tourist arrivals is Europe (51.3 %), Asia and Pacific (22.1 %) and America (15.9 %). The most visited countries in the world are: France, USA, China, Spain, Italy, Turkey, United Kingdom, Germany, Malaysia and Mexico. Europe absorbs 51.3 % world tourists and 44.97 % of world tourism receipts. As a conclusion tourism is expected to remain the most and dynamic sector of world economy.
