RETAIL CHAINS DYNAMICS AND ITS IMPACT ON ROMANIAN VEGETABLE PRODUCERS

Cornelia Alboiu

Abstract

This paper makes an analysis of the dynamics of the retail sector and its impacts on vegetable chain taking into consideration the main driving forces which govern the transition from the classical marketing systems to the modern, coordinated marketing systems: globalization, foreign direct investments, technological changes (advanced production and distribution system, information technology), and consumer preference changes. In this regard, a qualitative and quantitative analysis is carried out, in which statistical and econometric analysis by employing qualitative models is used in order to determine the vegetable farmers’ adaptation probability to the dynamics of retail chains using certain institutional variables. The results show that there is quite a slow rate of vegetable farmers’ adaptation to the modern retail chains requirements.
